AN IDYLLIC SITE: a balmy climate, wide frontage to a blue lagoon, huge coral out-crops and broad canopied trees required a simple and sensitive approach. The entry sequence descends through a series of coral remnants, where landscape and house gradually reveal themselves, centred around an open courtyard shaded by two magnificent flame trees. Located in an environment sensitive to Cyclone, earthquakes and limited local building expertise, the design needed to be robust and integrated with the structure delivering a building that would be easy to assemble. Based on a formal grid, represented in both plan and elevation and reinforced by the regular rhythm of columns and windows. The integration of an operable shutter mechanisms with the  windows provides a clever solution to both sun control and cyclone management.

Still under construction, these images trace our journey during the course of this wonderful project.
